Hot Air Balloon Mug And Plate For Handmade Monday

Its been an exciting week! The Olympics have started here in the UK (wasn't the opening ceremony fantastic!) and as i write this we have just won our first medal - well done to Lizzie Armistead for taking home silver in the women's cycling road race!

There has also been excitement in the world of Free Spirit Designs... i am currently 'featured seller' on the Wow Thank You  homepage :) AND i finally got my new website up and running!

Hot Air Balloon Mug And Plate

If you read my last Handmade Monday post you may remember the peek i gave you of the hot air balloon mug that i had started. Well, here is the completed mug, accompanied by matching plate!

If you're super observant you might notice that the baskets of the balloons are now smaller than they were on the picture i showed you last week. I knew there was something not quite right about the proportions, and i realised what it was when a few balloons helpfully flew over the garden...

The baskets are actually really tiny in comparison to the size of the balloons. So, i adjusted my design to give more of an idea of the true proportions and it looks more 'right' to me now :)

Here is the other side of the mug, and also the plate on its own so you can see the whole design.

Thank you so much to those that left lovely comments last week about the mug in its early stages... i hope you like how the finished project has turned out! Both the mug and plate will be available to buy in the next couple of days from My Website and my shops on Etsy and Wow Thank You.

What have you been up to this week i wonder... i look forward to popping over to Handmade Harbour to find out!

  3. Just had a look at your website. It looks really great. Very excited to be roadside and see the Olympic cyclists whizz past both yesterday and today. Very different experiences, as today we were in thunder and lightning, but the medal made in worthwhile.

  21. Your website looks really, really lovely. I wish i'd gone with Weebly now - it looks so clean and slick - but maybe your just much better at this stuff than me. Have saved your page for a good mooch later after i've been around the otehr HM sites.

    1. thank you Helen, that's really lovely of you to say :)

i have been really pleased with weebly so far - like you i like the clean simple design and it has been pretty easy to use too (although i managed to make it harder for myself in a way that is too complicated and frankly boring to go into!)

i'm sure yours will be super, your logo looks amazing (something i haven't got around to yet :)) good luck with it, i can't wait to see it when its done! x

    1. it was a bit time consuming, but that was really because i had lots of images to upload and also i did it all once then changed my mind about how i wanted it so i had to do it all again!

weebly is great though, really simple to use and you don't need to do any HTML, it is also FREE! (my favourite price :))

i hope this helps... just let me know if there is anything else you'd like to know x

  26. Just paying a late hand-made Monday visit :) trying to catch up with the posts as I've been away for a few days :)
fantastic painting on porcelain! i'm your quiet admirer and also a fellow painter, the only difference is that i tend to paint on glass :)
your painting is so neat and precise, i'm really impressed and i know how difficult it is to achieve a precision with a brush. have you tried with relief past too for some raised effect?
the balloons are such a lovely motif. they are growing on me!

    1. thanks for your comment Martha :)

i haven't tried relief paste.. it sounds intriguing! i'm always up for giving new things a go so i may have to get myself some :)

i now have some super fine brushes which help with precision but you're right it is trickier than it looks!

good luck with your glass painting xxx
