Decorating Porcelain With Words And A One Year Old Whippet!

Hello :)

Hands up who is a little burnt around the edges as a result of the glorious sunshine we've been blessed with in the UK this week! Its so tempting to stay under those wonderful rays a bit too long isn't it...

I've managed to avoid going too red although i do now have strap marks on my shoulders which, as is traditional in Britain, i will now be sporting for the rest of the Summer :)

Cherry And Olive Plates

Thank you everyone who took the time to comment on last week's post about my cherry and olive side plates, it was enormously helpful to me to hear your thoughts and a lovely confidence boost to hear that you like these designs! :)

I will be listing them in my Etsy shop and also on my website in the next couple of days so hopefully some other people will like them too!

Words Plate and Mug Set

This week images don't seem to have been working for me quite so willingly, and i have tried and rejected several more side plate designs before allowing myself to go in the direction that creative inspiration actually wanted me to go - words!

Having embraced my longing for language I came up with this design for a side plate for yummy sweet snacky things which i'm quite pleased with.

At which point it finally clicked in my head that the mugs i have fit rather neatly on the little side plates i've been decorating, and could in fact be used to create a set...

I'm not completely sure if the mug design works, or if any of it is appealing to eyes other than my own... so this is another of those occasions where any input you have to offer would be greatly appreciated!

Birthday Boy

In other news, we are celebrating a rather special birthday in our house today - my little Whippet puppy is one year old! So for the dog lovers amongst you, here is a picture of my little angel, and his best buddy Dave (my brother's dog).

Happy Birthday River!

I'm off over to Handmade Harbour now to see what you've been up to! x

yes, i did think about putting up more pictures of the mug... i think sometimes i imagine, for some reason, that people will 'just know' what things look like! woops..!

  3. I love words too and love text in design. I *adore* the side plate and like the mug (but not quite as much). I think the difference might be in the words being in different directions on the mug, more like a word cloud. Would the words work as a band around the top or bottom of the mug maybe? I think maybe this might work to make it more visually similar to the plate. It's not that I dislike the mug - I like it - just that for me the plate works better.

  4. I'm with Wendy on the mug - I think it's that they're all in different directions. But I love the plate - fabulous.

  9. I agree that the plate works better, but the mug is still quite nice...reminds me a bit of scrabble or crosswords with all of those directions!

    1. Thanks Jenny!

perhaps the scrabble/crossword look is a little disjointed in this case... good analogy! :)

  12. I too like the mug design, but understand the other comments. Perhaps a few less words would free it up a little.

  13. I think the 'words-thing' is brilliant. I love adding words to my sewing - I tend to use shorter phrases (because of the embroidery frame on my machine) and then repeat the frame, you could have a go at that as an idea - though I really like it just as it is! Happy Birthday River (great name)!
