Organic Cat Blanket And Love My Dog Wall Hanging For Handmade Monday

Its been a pet themed week - i've got something for the cat people and something for the dog people to share today!

Cosy Organic Cat Blanket

Its been hot hot hot across the UK this week! Whilst enjoying the sun's warming rays though i've actually been working on something soft and cosy - two of my favourite words at any time of year :)

Every cat owner knows that their feline friend excels at finding the softest and most comfortable place to take a nap - well, now they can have their very own snuggle blanket!

The fabric is 100% organic bamboo fibre - sooooooooo soft as well as absorbent and also said to have antibacterial properties! Another bonus is that because this is a natural material it won't create uncomfortable static electricity in the way that fabrics made from synthetic materials can.

The fleece is luxuriously thick (400gcm). I have decorated the blanket with applique sleeping cat in natural white bamboo.

Its available from my Etsy shop and other outlets prices £25.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out and am itching to make a doggy version too! I know it would be a fav with my comfort seeking whippet :) speaking of whom...

Love My Dog Wall Hanging

I love that this quote comes from as far back as 1150! :)

Incase this picture is hard to read it says:

Qui Me Amet
Amet Et
Canum Meum

(Who
Loves Me
Will Love
My Dog Also)

- St Bernard
AD 1150

The applique dog has three layers to add some depth and i've embroidered the quote with a running stitch.

The reverse side is plain red linen and i've put in a layer of wadding to add substance.

I'm not sure what to call this... a wall hanging? A door hanging? Its 18 x 11.5cms... what do you think?

I've loved making this as my little doggy is super special to me and we definitely come as a package :)

River soaking up some rays...

I hope it appeals to my customers too as i'd love to make some more like it!

Handmade Monday

That's it from me for this week - i'm off to do some more strawberry picking* before taking a trip round the other Handmade Monday crafty blogs.

* we have so many from our allotment right now, i've been jam making, freezing, ice cream making, not to mention giving away... and still they keep coming! lucky we all like strawberries!

Thanks for stopping by :) xxx

  1. More cats - yeah !! Can't wait to see what feline things you come up with next.

The dog hanger is lovely. The fabric you've chosen for the dog really stands out.

If you get tired of the stawberries I'd be happy to take them off your hands :-) They're known as 'yummy berries' in the Gertie household.... xx

  6. Although I am a cat person, I love the dog hanging, as I have a thing about whippets. Love the textured fabric you have used. I got very excited for a few seconds as I thought you were doing identify the plant again, and that one I know.

  9. That is a gorgeous blanket and I have just the cat here who would cuddle up on it - no matter what the time of year is. Daisy likes to keep warm - summer and winter. The dog hanger is so nice - I do like the wording. Hope you have a good week and save some strawberries for us.

  11. I love the red dog hanging. The quote on it is definitely true for all dog owners. I think it's more like a fabric plaque to me. When I think of wall hangings, I imagine something quite big in size.

Bamboo is a great fabric - I've not come across it for sale by the metre (admit to not having looked!) but have a few clothes made from it that I just love

  13. I like the way you have appliqued your dog in three layers. Making pets comfy is very important as I found out at the weekend. My sil and bil came up for a bbq with their little Jack Russel called Rusty. He usually sleeps in the evening but sat very quietly under the table until I found a carpet square for him. I'm sure I heard his snoring after this :)

  15. The fabric you've used for the cat blanket sounds wonderful. No shocked kitties. The dog hanging is lovely, I think more of a wall hanging than a door hanger. The wording is a really unique idea. Oh lucky you lots of yummy strawberries. The birds keep pinching the few I have. Have a lovely sunny week.
