'Birds Of A Feather' Fabric Collection For Handmade Monday

Hello :)

I've got a new fabric collection to show you! I've called it 'Birds Of A Feather' and its inspired by spring nest making and the soft, nurturing symbols of eggs, feathers and busy birds feeding hungry chicks :)

I've gone for a simple, classic colour pallet of pastel sky blue and white (for its versatility and freshness) although these designs could be adapted to any colour scheme (contact me for more info). As with all my fabric, the images have been hand drawn and then converted to digital format to create the fabric patterns.

This post is going to be pretty much all pictures now! I would be hugely grateful if you could let me know your favourites (or 'not so sures'...) in the comments... thank you!! x

Bird Fabric

This is the design i came up with from the image pictured at the top of the post. To give an idea of scale, this is what a 25x25 inch square would look like.

... and here's a design i created from three silhouettes i drew of birds gathering twigs for nest making (image represents what an 8x8 inch swatch would look like).

Feather Fabric

If you popped by my last Handmade Monday post you may remember that i showed you this picture i drew of a feather (thank you all for your encouraging comments!!).

You may have noticed that i used this images as the single falling feather in my first design...

... and i have also used it alongside some other feathers i drew to create this feather heart image...

... which became this fabric pattern (this represents a 25x25 inch fabric square).

I also used the feathers to create this pattern of falling feathers spelling out the word 'love'. This image represents a 12x12 inch square of fabric.

My final feather design was this simple one. This picture shows what a 10x10 inch square of fabric would look like.

Egg Fabric

With Easter coming up, i couldn't miss out eggs! So i drew up a few speckley ones like this...

... and turned them into this (Image represents a 6x6 inch swatch).

That's it for the designs... i hope i haven't overwhelmed you with all these pictures!

Variations

There are some colour variations you might like to see though... I reversed the blue and white for the twig collecting birds and egg designs...

... and i also tried most of them in pink and white which i rather like!

You will find all of these and more over at my Spoonflower shop. These won't be for sale for a couple of weeks as i need to check samples of the prints first - if you'd like to be notified when they become available just let me know.

There is also plenty of scope for customisation... if you would like one of these designs in a different colour combination or to a different scale, do contact me.

In Other News...

In amongst snow flurries we've had more encouraging signs of spring in these parts this week which has induced in me an uncharacteristic enthusiasm for spring cleaning! (I saw a quote on Pinterest the other day... "A clean kitchen is a sign of a wasted life" and am still seriously considering hanging a sign with it on in my house  :))

However, a sprinkling of daffs and a snatch of bird song on the spring breeze some how transforms me (briefly) into a house cleaning fiend... i'm sure the rest of the family will enjoy it while it lasts!!  Any one else caught the spring cleaning bug this week...?!!

I'm going to take a well earned break from the dusty corners and soapy water now though, to wander around the crafty wonderland that is Handmade Monday...

Thanks for dropping by :) x

  1. Hey Natalie - WOW you've been busy this week! I LOVE the silhouettes in all the colourways and the feathers as hearts and the word love... the birds nest & the eggs are cute, but they didn't catch my attention as much as the feathers and the silhouettes. Well done though on getting so many up and ready all at once, it's obvious your love for your work is shining through! Simmi xx

  3. Your patterns are amazing. You really have a great eye for this. I am quite surprised how different they appear when you swap the colourway around. I am really looking forward to seeing items made from them.

  4. I wish I could get enthusiastic about a bit of cleaning! Spring is definitely on it's way though, we even managed to sit out with our coffee on Saturday morning
I think my favourite is the simple single feather, and I really like the white egg on the blue :)

    1. Ha! I know what you mean, it is seriously rare that i get enthusiastic about it :)

Isn't it lovely to able to venture outdoors again without layers of protective clothing!

  5. Oh my word, the patterns you've made with your images are just lovely. I especially love the birds collecting twigs - I can see that being really popular. The blue & white colour scheme is my favourite too (out of anything you could've picked!). Thanks for you comment on my blog - unfortunately my writing and painting projects aren't linked but there are some ideas in my head with images and shorter writing!! x

  6. I love all the patterns I think my favourites are birds with the twigs, the heart and love feathers and the smaller egg design. I like the pink colour and I wondered how green would look as your designs are really fresh. Sorry but I think I'm a bit OCD over cleaning, I wish I could leave stuff. The laugh is my friends worry I think their houses are untidy but it never crosses my mind. Christmas Pie crafts has passed on the Super Sweet bloggin award to me and if it's ok can I pass it onto you. It involves chocolate. I'm posting about it tomorrow.
    Have a good week.

  7. They are all absolutely fantastic - did you really do all that in a week? My absolute favourite is in your 'variations' - it's the white birds on blue background. Stunning - well done!

  8. Really impressive - I love the birds with twigs inverted colours best. The eggs don't really do it for me but the feather looks good too. You are very talented designing these!

  9. I think I like the sillouettes of the birds best. Second favourite is the single feather. Although I think a lot might depend on the scale.

  10. Wow, you have been busy. They are lovely.

It's hard to choose a favourite but I'm going to go for the blue birds on the white background collecting twigs.

  11. I love the birds with twigs and think its great that you've turned the colours round. The feather heart is great too. I'd have to admit to not being so keen on the single feather design. The egg pattern is really quirky, great at this time of year. Keep up the good work! I've had no time for crafting this weekend but....the decorating is finished! Every cloud....

  12. Definite favourite for me are the birds collecting twigs in both blues- white on blue and blue on white. Really gorgeous! Might be interesting to see a white version with the birds in three or four different pastel shades of Spring colours on the same fabric too.

  13. I'm another in the birds collecting twigs camp, I love the fresh blue colour. I like the blue on white and the white on blue, they would look great used in the same items for soft furnishings etc.

  14. wow, i think its amazing the work that you are achieving at the moment!
The feather heart, and falling feather images are beautiful, i also like the birds collecting twigs, but not so keen on the birds nest (a bit too intricate a picture to work as a repeat pattern?), nor the egg (big and bold not quite delicate enough?)
the pale blue is a lovely colourway, and im sure the images will look equally as stunning in any pastal shade x

  15. They are beautiful, can see them in a vintage or scandinavian inspired nursery or bedroom. I love the hearts of feathers and the flying birds the best. The idea of reversing the prints and trying them in other colours is brilliant as it shows them off and draws the eye in a different way. Have you thought about experimenting with slightly stronger shades? x

  19. I really love these designs, not so keen on the eggs but out of the two prefer white eggs on blue background. The second picture of the birds collecting nesting materials is my favourite I think. I personally thought this pattern would also look stunning as a fine line drawing similar to the picture of the bird feeding the chicks in the nest. Wonderful work look forward to seeing more designs hot off the press :)

  20. Really amazing work! I think my favorite by just a tad is the heart made with the feathers, but the big feather alone is really striking. The egg also. Well, the birds too. Very hard to choose. would love to see them all in a variety of colors, they just rock!
